Building this site in public

The site you are reading is a pilot built in an afternoon. This post is the changelog, the decisions, and what is still rough.

I wanted one place that holds the things a resume cannot: what I am working on now, what I am learning, what I plan to build, and how far along each of those is.

Decisions

  • Next.js 16, Tailwind 4, shadcn/ui, Motion. The richest ecosystem for the kind of interface I want, and Vercel hosting is free for a personal site.
  • Content as typed files. Projects, posts, roadmap items and progress journeys are MDX files with frontmatter validated by Zod. A bad field fails the build. As a backend engineer, that is how I like my data.
  • Calm by default. Typography first, one accent colour, one or two deliberate interactions. Restraint reads as confidence.
  • Light and dark from day one. System preference respected, toggle in the header, no flash on load.

What is rough

This is a pilot. The design will get a few more passes, the resume needs a PDF export, and the progress numbers need to be kept honest.
